Not Enough Time in The Day? 3 Time Saving Tips for Your Job Search

Work smarter, not harder: That holds true for job searching too! It can be a long, stressful, trying process when you’re looking for a new job or trying to break into the working world, but there are ways to make it easier and more efficient.

Here are three pieces of advice to help save you time, and maybe a little stress, when you’re searching for a job.

  • Sign up for automated alerts.

This helps bring the job openings and descriptions to you. Job boards, from Indeed and ZipRecruiter to LinkedIn and GlassDoor and beyond, give you the chance to put in your skills, interests, and abilities and set up automated job posting emails. If something becomes available that meets your interests, you’ll get an email. Review it and decide whether you want to apply; if you don’t, delete it and move on. It’s that simple!

  • Talk to your friends, contacts, and network, both online and off.

Letting people know you’re looking for a new job can be tremendously helpful. You never know when someone will hear about a job that might be just what you’re looking for or will hear about an opening in their company that sounds like a perfect fit for you. But people can’t help you if they don’t know what you want! Talk to your friends, email, or message former coworkers and people who work in the kind of job you’d like to try. These kinds of referrals can be so helpful.

  • Talk with a staffing company.

Staffing companies and agencies exist to help people find jobs. They know which companies are hiring, what positions are open and what makes candidates stand out. They can also provide resume advice and might be able to point you in the direction of some skills to add to your resume in order to become a more attractive candidate. Use their knowledge to your advantage — they have insider information that can help you get to the top of the resume review pile faster!

No one likes waiting around for a new job. No one enjoys the idea of a long, drawn-out process of making a big change in their life. But now you don’t have to! Take the time to do a little extra legwork at the beginning of your search and reap the rewards sooner.
